Kals'Art 2008
Kals'Art is back to enliven Palermo nights with its explosive charge of music, cinema, theater, art and monuments. Kals'Art is a huge series of events that take place all summer in the heart of Palermo.
The Kalsa quarter is Palermo's ancient Arab heart, with over a thousand years of history, and an enormous stage with a world of art, culture and performances to experience.
Kals'Art is a mega-happening that is organized into give macro-sections:
Music: from July to September, there are a variety of reviews dedicated to special themes, such as "Kals'Art Wave," in Piazza Kalsa, dedicated to Mediterranean music; "Kals'Art Maree" in the Church complex of Santa Maria dello Spasimo, with some of the most interesting voices on the international scene; "Kals'Art Riflessi" is a series of jazz, ethno-folk and contemporary music concerts that gathers together artists from different traditions, involved in original and surprising musical combinations. "Kals'Art Mare Aperto", in Piazza Magione, is a review dedicated to the young, featuring big names from the rock music scene. And, finally, the former Santerasmo locomotive depot will be turned into a relaxing oasis where you can enjoy lounge, electronic and avant-garde music late into the night.
Cinema: every year a rich review dedicated to a specific theme. The films are shown in the suggestive spaces of the Santa Maria dello Spasimo complex.
Theater: there are a variety of repertory cycles for both adults and children in the restored spaces of Palazzo Bonagia.
Art: you visit painting and photography exhibitions or stroll along enchanting lanes past art installations and historic villas of extraordinary beauty.
Monuments: the monuments, museums and churches in the great pedestrian island of the Kalsa are open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening from 21:00 to 24:00. The Antonio Pasqualino International Marionette Museum is not to be missed. The city's offering is completed by a rich program of guided walks to discover the secrets of the city, with a variety of themes: literary, historic and artistic.
