Paletrmo Exhibit: Max Ernst in the Wurth Collection
An exhibit dedicated to Max Ernst will be on display at the Palazzo dei Normanni, in Palermo, in the Sala Duca di Montalto hall until July 15, 2008.
The exhibit entitled "Max Ernst in the Wurth Collection" will be on display from February 16 to July 15, 2008. The purpose of the exhibit is to spread knowledge on this extraordinary man and on the "frottage" technique. The German surrealist was a poet, a sculptor but, above all, a painter.
His famous technique consisted in recreating the stories of dreams to recreate the images emerging from his subconscious, an authentic innovation at the turn of the 20th century. This technique is not difficult: the drawing is made by placing a sheet on any surface to make Ernst's mysterious images appear with the ribbing and grains typical of the area used. The themes in this German artist's symbolism combine the unconscious, legend, eroticism, death and mystery.
The exhibit was inaugurated with the special participation of Reinhold Wurth who provided 63 of the master surrealist Max Ernst's works for the exhibit. For the first time in Italy, the Wurth Collection 1932 masterpiece, "United", a dresser whose two doors were painted by the German surrealist, is on display.
Admission to the Palazzo dei Normanni Monumental complex can be purchased with the exhibit ticket.
