Sagra del Salgemma a Petralia Soprana - Palermo
This year's celebration will be held from August 26 to August 31, 2008. As usual, the main event is held on the last Sunday of August.
The streets of Petralia Soprana will fill with craft stands, local products and fruits from the province of Palermo to celebrate the traditional event and tourist attraction when rock salt and good local wine are distributed.
This year the XVIII Sagra del Salgemma will be held with the VIII Raduno Internazionale del Folklore (International Folklore Festival), "Petralia Soprana Città del Sale". The show starts on Friday August 29 with the performances of musical groups that participate in the international folklore festival. Saturday, August 30, the traditional rock salt race will be held during the "Sagra del Salgemma", followed by the distribution of local specialties. Sunday, August 31, the folklore festival culminates in the performance of 7 international folk groups, concluding the folklore festival. The entire event is spiced with displays of farm equipment and photographic exhibits with scheduled tours of Europe's largest salt mine.
The entire event is organized by the Raffo Sport Club association and by the Grafo di Raffo Folk Group.
